Iben Tinning to Captain Europe’s 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup Team

JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUPThe 40 year-old four-time Solheim Cup player takes over the role from Scotland’s Janice Moodie as Europe bids to win the biennial transatlantic contest featuring the 12 best female junior amateur players (born in 1997 and later) from both Europe and America for the first time since 2007.

Tinning becomes the new Captain at a time when the profile of the PING Junior Solheim Cup will be boosted by the fact that for the first time ever it is to be played at the same venue as The Solheim Cup itself.

“I am honoured and thrilled to be selected as Captain of Europe’s PING Junior Solheim Cup team for 2015,” confirmed Tinning, who played on four Solheim Cup teams in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007 and has won six Ladies European Tour titles.

“I’m excited to get the chance to work with talented young girls of this calibre and I hope my playing and coaching experience will help to bring the best out of the girls. I have a huge passion for junior golf and there is certainly no better place to hold the match than at St Leon-Rot because it is a club that places a huge emphasis on developing junior players,” added the new Captain who is currently working as Coach for the Danish National Golf Team.

The PING Junior Solheim Cup was established by PING CEO and Chairman John A. Solheim back in 2002 and since then it has developed a deserved reputation for showcasing the talents of the world’s best female junior players with Azahara Munoz, Anna Nordqvist, Carlota Ciganda, Beatriz Recari, Melissa Reid, Charley Hull, Caroline Masson, Caroline Hedwall, Paula Creamer, Vicky Hurst, Brittany Lang, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel, Jessica Korda, and Lexi Thompson all playing in the match before graduating to The Solheim Cup.

The 2015 event marks the eighth time the PING Junior Solheim Cup team will be contested with the US Team currently leading the series 4-2-1.

“We would like to congratulate Iben Tinning on her selection as the Captain of the European Team for the 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup” said Solheim. “With 16 years as a Professional, four Solheim Cup appearances and six victories worldwide, Iben will be a great asset to the young players. Having served as Captain of the Danish National Team, she will certainly provide encouragement and inspiration for the team helping to make next year’s matches very exciting.”
